Australian Made Week 2024
Happy Australian Made Week! Here at Merino Country we are celebrating 31 years of Australian Made Merino!
From the 20th - 26th of May 2024, we celebrate the Australian makers and creators with Australian Made Week. This is our chance to shine a light on all that is produced on our home soil, including our Australian Merino clothing and underwear.
This year, the Australian Made Campaign has chosen singer-songwriter and Aussie pop star icon Jessica Mauboy as the Australian Made Week Ambassador. She leads an impressive lineup of home-grown Aussie brands, all proudly displaying the iconic green and gold kangaroo logo, a symbol of their Australian Made license.
“We Aussies have a reputation and passion for creating things. For me it’s my music. I’m excited to lend my voice to celebrating the ingenuity of other Australians who put their heart and soul into producing home-grown products,” Jess said.
The Australian made campaign shared some words from their Chief Executive, Ben Lazzaro, emphasising that Australian Made Week aims to spotlight genuine Aussie goods.
“When we buy products bearing the iconic Australian Made green and gold kangaroo, we are helping all Australians enjoy the lifestyle that makes us the envy of the rest of the world,” Lazzaro said.
“Australian Made Week is an opportunity for us to become more conscious about our purchases – because choosing Australian Made over imported goods can have a huge impact."
"In fact, if each household spent an extra $10 weekly on Australian Made products, it would generate almost an additional $5 billion to the Australian economy and could create up to 9,000 new jobs,” he said.
A recent Roy Morgan survey supports this, showing that 91% of Australians want to see more Australian Made options and 72% are looking to buy more Australian Made products in the next 12 months.
We know first hand that the green and gold kangaroo helps create and support local jobs, boosting the economies of the cities, towns, and regions where these goods are produced. This is why we are still producing and making right here in Queensland supporting Australian jobs, communities, families and businesses.
“Whether you’re buying something big or small, look out for the green and gold kangaroo, so you know you’re buying genuinely Aussie, because Australian Made makes Australia,” Jess said.
